The Deep Dive

Optimize your Shopify store using SEO

Something that can be often overlooked, but is insanely powerful in the world of e-commerce today, is SEO.

It is the core crucial element to getting ahead of your competitors, and getting seen by your customers on search engines.

To start, you'll want to find the best keywords to work with for your store.

Research keywords that have high search volume and low competition.

You can use free tools like Google Keyword PlannerKeyword Everywhere…or some other well known paid search tools like SemRush or Ahrefs.

Another good resource is this blog by Shopify with a list of their top FREE keyword research apps.

As you know, when you fine-tune your SEO, it makes your website more navigable and understandable to search engines.

Which in turn, ranks it higher on search engines for the audience working to find you. And, using both on-page and off-page SEO allows you to cover all aspects of website optimization, ensuring a stronger, more competitive online footprint.

On-page SEO focuses on optimizing elements within your website, such as content quality, keyword optimization, and meta tags, to improve your site's visibility and ranking on search engines.

Off-page SEO, on the other hand, involves external efforts like building backlinks, social media engagement, and influencer marketing to enhance your site's authority and online presence.

Ways To Optimize Your On-Page SEO:

  • Keyword Integration - Once you’ve found the right keywords, sprinkle them throughout your webpages, titles, content, and even URLs.

  • Page Titles - It is recommended to keep your page titles under 60 characters. They should be catchy and include your main keyword.

  • Meta Descriptions - These are the bits of text (under 155 characters) that show in search results after your title tag. Make them count and include keywords.

  • Image Optimization - It is good practice to make sure all of your images have descriptive filenames and include alt text. This makes them readable for search engines and improves accessibility.

  • Blog - Your blog is a strategic tool in this area. Use your blog to address common questions, provide value, and match those inquiries with search terms discovered during your keyword research.

Ways To Optimize Your Off-Page SEO:

  • Backlinks - These are like endorsements from other sites. High-quality links from reputable sites boost your site's authority. You’ll be able to get more of these over time through collaborations, partnerships, and other relationships online mentioned below.

  • Guest Blogging and Podcasts - Share your expertise and/or products on other blogs/podcasts to get your name/store out there. This also earns valuable backlinks.

  • Social Media - Active social media profiles can drive traffic to your store and enhance your brand's online presence. You can repurpose content in your blog in smaller pieces, in order to create for social media, as well as scripts for videos if you’d like to take the Reels/TikTok route. This not only diversifies your content but also strengthens your brand's voice and authority.

  • Influencer Marketing - Collaborations with influencers can lead to product reviews and mentions, extending your reach. (Here’s a link to our past newsletter about creating a winning influencer campaign)

Remember, SEO requires patience, adaptation, and continuous learning.

With a solid on-page and off-page strategy, your Shopify store will attract more visitors and turn them into loyal customers!

That’s a wrap!

Remember, visibility is everything and using SEO effectively can get your store out of the shadows and into the spotlight!
