Sponsorships aren’t just for big businesses anymore.
In fact, if your ad dollars on the major ad networks haven’t been producing ROI like they did in years past…
…Sponsorships might be the best paid channel available to you right now.
Earlier this month I delivered a live workshop to over 640 entrepreneurs to show how a smaller business can use sponsorships to outperform their current paid traffic ROI.
This is a must watch if you’ve needed to inject a new, profitable traffic source into your business.

The Deep Dive
It is easy to get lost in all the fancy and shiny new apps or platforms or strategies available to us to grow sales on our store.
But here is a Truth Bomb:
If you aren’t doing the fundamental stuff right, you are leaking tons of potential cash.
There are so many customers and sales to be had but most of them slip right through your store’s digital fingers.
There are people right now who would would be great customers of your store and would love your products….but they can’t find you.
(And/or you are not finding them)
Unless you are some major player in your market and dominate key search results for your products, you need to set your store up to compete on “long tail keywords”.
So, what the heck is a longtail keyword anyway?
Picture this keyword:
"coffee"
Short, sweet, and as vague as a politician's promises.
Broad keywords like that are a blood bath to try to compete on both in organic and paid search results.
Every other relevant store is fighting to grab as big a slice as they can from the same pie.
Instead consider "best organic arabica coffee beans."
That's your longtail keyword - a bit of a mouthful, but way more specific.
What makes it Longtail? It has 4 words or more.
And yes, these longer keywords get fewer searches for sure.
But the people who make these searches, well, they are far more likely to have their credit cards ready and would LOVE to send some money to the store that best fits their needs.
This is where things like a deeper understanding of how your key buyer avatar(s) may:
Describe themselves
orDescribe the problem they’re having that your product can solve
orDescribe the type or kind of product they want or feature they need
Can help you tap into the Longtail Goldmine you are already sitting on with all the different types of people who can get value from the use case(s) of your products.
So how do you find longtail keywords that are actually worthwhile?
Keyword Research Tools
Google Keyword Planner, Ubersuggest, Answer the Public - these are your compasses in the wilderness of keywords. Some are free, some aren't. Play around with them.
Begin with regular keywords that are obvious for your niche and products, and then keep drilling down.
Remember — you don’t need a billion monthly searches for longtail keywords to pay off.
Your conversion rates are going to be higher and these are likely to be some of your highest lifetime value customers as well!
Competitor Analysis
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer, right?
Tools like SEMRush and Ahrefs can show you what keywords your competitors are using.
Sneaky? Maybe. Effective? Definitely.
Customer Feedback
Listen to your customers. And listen to the customers of your competitors too.
They are all dropping longtail keywords like breadcrumbs.
Reviews, feedback, social media comments, Reddit threads — they are all goldmines.
Pro tip:
Spend a few hours copying and pasting customer comments from wherever you can find them into one big doc, then put that doc through a wordcloud generator.
Boom.
You’ll instantly see the phrases your audience uses most often. Build some longtail searches in your keyword research tool from there & I bet you’ll see some pretty enormous traction.
Now you've got your longtail keywords. Here’s how to use them:
Content Strategy
Craft your content like a master sculptor - with precision and finesse.
Product titles, descriptions, blog posts — all opportunities for your longtail keywords to shine.
But don't force it. Search algorithms are wise to “keyword stuffing” and it turns potential customers off too. Use them naturally (ideally conversationally) and you’ll be fine.
Product Titles and Descriptions
This is prime real estate. Make your longtail keywords the star of the show. But keep it classy. Nobody likes a sell-out or a keyword stuffer.
Blog Posts
Blogs are your playground. You can weave in longtail keywords without sounding like a parrot. Titles, body, meta descriptions - sprinkle them in like seasoning, not like you're trying to bury a body.
The blog is a great starting place to test out creating multiple pages that are all about the same product….
….but have each page highlight how the product serves a different market segment or buyer avatar.
For example, a store that sells educational toys and books to children could some blog content on their site specifically for teachers and different content aimed at parents.
Heck, if there were enough searches for it it would be worth the handful of hours to create content aimed at pediatrician’s offices or aimed at parents of a left handed child.
Internal Linking
Sneak those longtail keywords into your anchor text for internal links. It helps Google understand your site better, and a happy Google means a happy you.
In short, longtail keywords are like the indie bands of the SEO world.
They may not have the flash and glamor of their short-tail counterparts, but they're the real deal.
Think about it: Why compete in an oversaturated market when you can rule a niche?
Why shout to be heard over the din when you can whisper and still command attention?
That's the power of longtail keywords.
They might not be bringing in enough volume to sell out a stadium tour….but they'll bring in the fans that actually buy the merch.
Spend a few hours digging in with longtail keywords and you’ll eventually find those were some of your most profitable work hours this year.
Even with low competition keywords, it will still take some time to rank well. SEO always takes time to build. But you can get some VERY targeted traffic for free if you make it a habit to focus on the longtail low hanging fruit.
Over time tackle more and more competitive terms and you’ll see results build quite spectacularly over time.
There are a whole lot of potential customers out there who want to buy from you….they just don’t know you yet.
So now it’s time to go and start capitalizing on your best longtail keywords.
Follow the process laid out above and start grabbing pieces of the pie from your competitors!
