So often, we go through all the trouble of creating creative, writing copy and building ad campaigns to end up with a negative ROI. Not cool...
Then the Facebook reps tell us to "Buy Data" to season our pixel. While this is true to a certain extent, one of the most common problems we face as Shopify store owners is finding the "Right Audiences" to serve with your ads.
Why is it so hard to find the "right audience?"
It all starts with this single question: Who is your product for?
If you said "everybody," this is most likely the reason why Facebook/Meta Ads has not been crushing for you and your brand.
In this Issue, we are going to talk about a proven process to find the best possible Facebook ad audiences to move the needle for your brand!
Let's get into it…

Are you looking to create a successful Facebook ad campaign? It all starts with understanding your target audience. So many times, we as Shopify store owners, fall for the “everyone” trap! We put so much time and energy into building our products and brands that we forget that “everyone” is not a person that we can target on Facebook. So when you do find the perfect audience it will dramatically impact your ads performance!
By understanding “Who” you are targeting, you can step into their shoes and think about how they might use your website and Facebook. This will give you a list of Ideas on how to reach them with your Facebook Ads.
Here are 9 ideas to find a profitable audience:
#1. Define your target audience: Before creating your Facebook ad campaign, it's important to have a clear understanding of who your target audience is. Consider factors such as age, gender, location, income, interests, and behaviours.
Pro Tip: Not all customers are created equal. Determine which customers make the highest purchases without using up too many resources, such as customer service. Find them by asking yourself the following:
Who is spending the most with my brand?
How are they using our products? (Good for angles & creative ideas)
Are they even accessible with Facebook ads?
#2. Use Facebook's Audience Insights tool: Facebook's Audience Insights tool allows you to research your target audience and see how they interact with the platform. This can help you identify patterns and insights that can inform your ad targeting. (Click Here)
#3. Utilize Custom Audiences: Custom Audiences allow you to target people who have already interacted with your store. You can create a custom audience from your email list, website traffic, or customer data.

#4. Lookalike Audiences: Lookalike Audiences allows you to target people who are similar to your existing customer base. This can help you reach new potential customers who are likely to be interested in your products.
Pro Tip: I would recommend testing 1 - 10% for LLA. You will be surprised how well larger audiences tend to convert. The more daily conversions you have, the better performance from a data and sales perspective! :)
#5. Use Interest targeting: Interest targeting allows you to target people based on their interests, hobbies, and behaviours. Use Facebook's Audience Insights tool to research the interests of your target audience and use this information to create your ad targeting.
#6. Use location targeting: Location targeting allows you to target people based on their geographic location. Use this feature to target people in specific countries, regions, cities, or even neighbourhoods.
Pro Tip: Opening up to new geo's with performing creative can be one of the fastest ways to scale your campaigns.
#7. Use Demographic targeting: Demographic targeting allows you to target people based on age, gender, education, and job title.
#8. Use Language targeting: Language targeting allows you to target people based on their preferred language.
#9. Use Connections targeting: Connections targeting allows you to target people based on their relationship to your page
These should have you facing in the right direction when it comes to finding the perfect Facebook audience for your ads. You still need amazing creative, copy and products, but at least you will be talking to the Right audience!
