2 Tricks to Supercharge Your Store's Speed In Under 5 Minutes ⚡
Do you check your store’s loading speed?
If not, you probably should.
Fast stores get quick sales. And Google ranks them highly.
But if your store has a mere two-second delay in load speed, the number of visitors who “bounce” can increase by up to 103%, per Shopify.
Today, you’re going to learn how to make your store get more sales and keep visitors for longer with 2 “spring cleaning” tricks you only need to do once, without looking at a single line of code.
And you can do them before you finish your morning coffee ☕

How To Reach Targeted, High Value Audiences

Sponsorships aren’t just for big businesses anymore.
In fact, if your ad dollars on the major ad networks haven’t been producing ROI like they did in years past…
…Sponsorships might be the best paid channel available to you right now.
Earlier this month I delivered a live workshop to over 640 entrepreneurs to show how a smaller business can use sponsorships to outperform their current paid traffic ROI.
This is a must watch if you’ve needed to inject a new, profitable traffic source into your business.

The Deep Dive

You know how your online store is made up of features like themes, apps, images, videos, and carousels?
Well, you’re aware they all contribute to the quality of your customer experience. But what you might not know is that they’re also impacting your store’s loading speed.
Some will be reducing speed because they’re big and clunky. Even the small ones can make your store noticeably slower.
To give your site a speed boost, all you need to do is some quick “spring cleaning” in your store’s back end.
You don’t need an expensive developer for this. You don’t even need to look at a single line of code.
The first place to start is in your app dashboard.
App Clear Out
Over time as you’re building out your site, you collect apps. And they don’t just sit there waiting to be used.
They’re all running in the background taking up valuable site energy.
To make your site light and nimble, go through your apps and take out the ones you no longer need.
If you’re not afraid of a bit of code work, you can remove code that was added as part of the app install process. Some apps help you with this process by wrapping their code in {% comment %} tags that mention the app name.
Also, take a look at the features across your store. See if you really need them.
For example, some quick view pop-ups pre-load information from every product page when a collection page loads. Loading extra data your customers aren't using can impact your store speed without adding much value.
Having said that, it could be worth checking how much your store features are converting before removing them.
You can do this by running a heatmap on your storefront. It’ll show you where customers are browsing and clicking.
Image Optimization
Images can be pretty heavy weights for a site to carry when loading up. Especially the large, fancy ones.
To ease the load on your store, consider reducing the sizes of your images.
You want to reduce size as much as possible without sacrificing image quality.
Even the images that are hidden from view can slow your site down.
We’ve got some clean-up tips you should bear in mind when optimizing images for speed.
Firstly, don’t place the largest image on your webpage and simply shrink the dimensions via the source code. This will increase your page load time because of the larger file size associated with the image.
Instead, use a smaller image on the page and offer visitors the option to view a larger image in a pop-up or on a separate page.
Secondly, JPEGs will be the best image format for ecommerce in most cases. They provide the best image quality for the smallest file size.
Third is to make your thumbnail file sizes as small as possible.
It may be worth letting quality slide in favor of a lower file size here. Remember, the cumulative impact of your thumbnails will have a huge impact on your page load time.
Fourth is to keep slideshows of featured images to 2-3 slides, or use one featured image.
And an extra bonus site rank booster tip for images is to use concise and direct names for images.
If you’ve uploaded an image to your store, it likely has some confusing coded name from the original source like “img23cs£234r9-csdf_fkf34jf.png”
Google has to read this title to understand what the image is.
If you give the image a simple title like “brown-flower-pot.jpg” it’s easier for Google to understand what the image is. And Google will be able to rank your store higher since it knows how to classify it in the search results page.
Sound easy enough? 🙂
Although these changes are low risk and easy to make, you can seek advice from a professional developer if you’re afraid to break something.
But don’t tell them where you discovered their secrets 😉
